A few weeks ago (June, 2014), I spent Sunday afternoon with the Top of Ohio Pet Shelter (Bellefontaine, OH) staff and volunteers going over dog behavior and body language, as well as basic dog handling skills for a dog in a shelter environment. I asked for the dog the staff had the hardest time working with, walking, or interacting with. Life in a shelter can be incredibly stressful for some dogs, which is why one Ohio shelter has set out to make their lives a little bit better. According to CBS, the Toledo Area Humane Society has created what they call the "real life room" to give shelter dogs a break from their kennels. the room is designed to look and feel like a living room and according to shelter workers time in the real life room can do wonders for a dog's temperament. The Toledo Area Humane Society takes in about 5,000 animals every year and hopes that the real life room can help dogs to destress as they await their forever homes. http://www.cbsnews.com/news/toledo-humane-society-real-life-room-makes-shelter-dogs-feel-at-home/ http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit News using http://wochit.com
I volunteered my video services at a local mega church. There was an upcoming community work day and the homeless shelter was one of five stops on that day for me to film. I went to the shelter for three days in a row prior to the work day and this video is the result. Music Credit: Do Not Be Afraid: Kaleb Jones
